Feature: Web Guides

We've added a few web guides created for both teachers and students to use the 'Net for English/Language Arts type research. So far, we've got web guides on Hemingway, Civil Rights, and Journalism. Web Guides can be found at http://www.teenlit.com/webguides/default.htm . If you'd like to create and donate a web guide or request another useful topic for one, let us know.

A word about plagiarism...

Last month, for the first time we know of, it came to our attention that someone had submitted another person's writing as their own. Fortunately, a number of our visitors let us know, and we were able to remove that piece of writing. In fact, it seems this was a well-known poem, though the submitting writer claimed, "I love writing poetry and this is the first poem of mine that has been published." Well, it wasn't her poem & it's no longer published here. Plagiarism, of course, is when you use someone else's work or words as your own without their permission. This is a very serious offense which can lead to failing a high school class, being expelled from a university, or being sued. The World Wide Web, in many ways, has made plagiarism far too easy. As writers, however, we know the value, hard work, and personal nature of our own writing, and we would never want to take that away from someone else. Let this serve as a reminder to us all.

TeenLit.com - In Print

It's official; we're cool. Yes, we have made into the book, Internet Cool Guide: Entertainment, as a top site for teens. To purchase this book from Amazon.com go to: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/3823854461/teenlitcom/

or check out the book and other site reviews at InternetCoolGuide.  TeenLit.com was also among the top ezines for teens in an article titled "Getting in line to publish online" in the September 2000 edition of Voices in the Middle a publication for middle school language arts teachers published by the National Council of Teachers of English.

Also, appearing in October 2000's copy of the Journal of Adolescent and Adult Literacy is our article, "Opportunites for Teenagers to Share Their Writing Online" which can be previewed at http://www.readingonline.org/electronic/elec_index.asp?HREF=/electronic/jaal/10-00_Column/index.html

Awards & Publicity

The best way to publicize our site is certainly through our own authors and fans, so keep spreading the word! We've won some awards along the way which also help; see these at http://www.teenlit.com/awards.htm. So, if you see a worthwhile web award, go ahead and enter us; just be sure to use our email (webmaster@teenlit.com) not your own.
